CSF-DC teams up with NCAN and Capital One for monthly FAFSA workshops

January 23, 2024

In the realm of higher education, change is constant. The 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), now dubbed the “Better FAFSA,” has emerged with the promise of simplifying the financial aid process for students across the nation. With the largest overhaul in decades, the Better FAFSA aims to streamline the application, making it shorter and more accessible to a wider range of students, thereby increasing eligibility for Pell Grant funding.

However, this year, a twist in the timeline has altered the usual rhythm of the FAFSA application process. Typically available in October, this year’s application launch was delayed, giving students a shorter window to identify their dream colleges, apply for early decisions, and submit their financial aid applications. But fear not, for strategic partners across the country are stepping up to support students and parents in navigating this challenge.

In a significant development for Washington, DC residents, CSF-DC has been chosen as the strategic partner for the region. Collaborating with the National College Attainment Network (NCAN), Mainstay, and Capital One, CSF-DC is launching the FAFSA Completion Project, a series of three free monthly financial aid workshops in Southeast, DC.

Hosted at the Capital One Cafe on 1203 Marion Barry Avenue (formerly Good Hope Road), these workshops, taking place on January 13th, March 16th, and March 30,  are tailored to guide students and parents through the intricacies of the FAFSA process. From creating FSA IDs to completing the form and addressing queries about financial aid and college admissions, the workshops aim to empower families in their pursuit of higher education.

The FAFSA Completion Project not only serves as an educational resource but also provides an opportunity to connect with CSF-DC leaders and staff. Beyond that, attendees can benefit from the workshops in a relaxed atmosphere, surrounded by the support of the local community. The Capital One Cafe offers the perfect setting for this collaborative initiative, fostering an environment where knowledge and community converge.
