Spokane scholars celebrate their promising futures at College Signing Day
For seven years, College Success Foundation Spokane has hosted Spokane College Signing Day. This highly anticipated event celebrates the commitment of local underserved students who have overcome insurmountable odds to persist through high school and to attend college in the fall. This year Mayor Nadine Woodward officially declared May 10, 2022 CSF–Spokane College Signing Day, where 400 high school seniors from Spokane high schools were joined by their families, mentors, and community members to celebrate their achievements.
“This is a family celebration that honors and recognizes each student and their commitment to pursue a college education, creating new opportunities for themselves and their families to succeed in life.”
– CSF Regional Director Shannon Demant
“This event is significant given all of our CSF Scholars come from low-income families in which postsecondary education has often felt unattainable,” said CSF’s regional director Shannon Demant. “Additionally, upwards of 65% percent of our students are the first in their family to go to college. The supports that CSF has been able to provide and the hard work our scholars have done is making college goals a reality for our students and we could not be more proud of all they have each accomplished.”

The headline event of the evening took place when each of the students signed a giant banner signifying their commitment to attend college this fall. The evening also featured representatives from regional colleges and universities, college scholarship drawings, and celebratory photos for all to enjoy.
“I loved College Signing Day! It meant so much to my family and me to get to meet future classmates, and be celebrated for our accomplishments thus far! I felt so honored and proud to be a part of College Signing Day and I hope students forever get to feel the benefits of this program!”
– CSF Scholar and North Central High School student Johnny
To get students well-equipped for their journeys ahead, each student was provided a College Ready Pack, which included a $50 gift card and other school supplies. Avista Foundation, a long time event sponsor, invited students to enter into an at-random drawing for five-$500 college scholarships. Students also received a College Success Foundation honor cord to wear during their forthcoming graduation ceremonies as a token of their incredible accomplishments.
The generous financial and in-kind support of event sponsors and partners have made this special celebration possible. Thank you for all you do to contribute to our scholars’ promising futures.
