Leading by Example: The Journey of Aniyah Gordon

July 24, 2025

At H.D. Woodson High School, leadership has a name: Aniyah Gordon.

Whether she’s stepping up as a representative for the Student Government Association or guiding younger students through her role on the Pep Squad, Aniyah leads with purpose and heart. Her mission? To build a stronger, more connected school culture, and she’s doing just that.

But Aniyah’s influence doesn’t stop at titles. As the founder and Editor-in-Chief of H.D. Woodson’s school magazine, she’s created a platform where student voices shine. As President of the Technology Student Association, she’s encouraging her classmates to explore innovation, design, and collaboration. She’s found a way to fuse her passions for technology and storytelling, and to uplift others along the way.

Outside the school walls, Aniyah continues to make waves. She’s interned at the National Portrait Gallery, lending her talents and gaining valuable insight into the professional art and museum world. She’s also honed her skills as a public speaker and photographer, using her voice and vision to inspire.

This fall, Aniyah’s journey continues at Elon University, where she’ll be part of the prestigious Odyssey Program. With a four-year, $120,000 scholarship and an Economic Club Scholarship valued at approximately $20,000, Aniyah is set to major in Computer Programming and expand her impact even further.

Aniyah Gordon isn’t just preparing for the future; she’s already leading it. And at every step, she reminds us what’s possible when young people are given the tools, encouragement, and space to lead by example.
