CSF Celebrates AmeriCorps Week
Since 2010, College Success Foundation has managed a results-driven AmeriCorps program. This program supports low-to-moderate income, underserved middle school students in our partner schools throughout Washington state.
Our CSF AmeriCorps College and Career Coaches (CACC) deliver CSF’s college and career readiness curriculum to enhance a college-going culture and strengthen students’ college aspirations. This AmeriCorps Week, we celebrate their commitment to inspiring our next generation of students in shaping brighter futures. Following are highlights from a couple of our AmeriCorps members.
Getting to know students

Courteney Coleman, CACC at Meridian Middle School in Kent School District, dedicates her lunch periods to answering college and career questions from her students. She enjoys getting to know them through hosting a table in the cafeteria and talking to them about their interests, plans, colleges and scholarships.
She has also facilitated College and Career Jeopardy with her students. “I love playing this game with them,” she says. “It is fun to see how competitive and excited they get while working in their teams.”

Providing essentials

Ashley Washington, CACC at First Creek Middle School in Tacoma Public Schools, noticed students who needed hygiene items. With the support of her program manager, Ashley received donations from community partners and CSF employees. Because of the overwhelming amount of donations she received, she decided to make them available and accessible to all students in her classroom.
“I witness students going through some serious hardships, especially financially,” Ashley says. “A lot of our students are homeless. By providing these resources, it gives them a sense of normalcy to be able to access these essential items. It brings me joy to be able to help in any way possible.”
We appreciate our AmeriCorps members’ dedication to serving through such a difficult time. During AmeriCorps week, please join us in sending an #AmeriThanks to our AmeriCorps College and Career Coaches who are helping to break the cycle of poverty and open doors for all to succeed. Your passion for service helps us build safer, stronger, healthier, and united communities!
