CSF Scholar Spotlight: Brian’s Story
CSF Scholar Brian has learned the value of getting involved in opportunities to better himself and his community. A passionate and involved leader at Mount Vernon High School, he has a natural enthusiasm for learning. He also embraces opportunities to learn from others.
Creating Positive Change
In addition to CSF’s Achievers program, DECA, and other school-based programs, Brian has participated in the Washington World Fellows program. He has also taken on a leadership role as Associated Student Body President. In this role, he has helped foster a healthy school culture during remote learning.
He and his ASB peers hosted virtual spirit weeks on social media, created care packages to encourage students during finals, and facilitated get-to-know-your-community interviews with local leaders. His goal is to ensure people feel wanted, important, and needed.
Now a high school senior, Brian will be a first-generation high school graduate this fall and the first in his family to attend college. He hopes to pursue a career as a financial consultant. His CSF College Preparatory Advisor, Ashley (Barnes) Wilson, helped him apply to over 20 colleges across the country, many of which are renowned for their business programs.
Seeking Social Justice
During college, Brian seeks to understand how systems, policies, and practices influence social behaviors and injustices. As a financial consultant, he wants to promote social responsibility and encourage companies to invest in programs that will improve quality of life for low-income families and those furthest from educational justice.
Brian’s work to share his learning and create positive change in our community is inspiring. With CSF Scholars like him emerging as future leaders in our communities, our future is indeed bright!
