Scholarships & Financial Aid

CSF Scholarship Season Kicks Off December 1

November 18, 2020

Our scholarships open doors to students that were once thought unimaginable. They’ve been a core part of our mission since College Success Foundation began and have helped make the dream of a college degree a reality for thousands. Equally important to the financial assistance they provide, our scholarships send a signal to recipients that their success is worthy of investment and that they belong in college.

On December 1, applications for two such scholarships, Leadership 1000 Scholarship and the Washington State Governor’s Scholarship for Foster Youth, will open. These scholarships provide a pillar of financial assistance that students can rely on as they plan for and pursue a four-year degree.

Ability to pay for college remains one of the greatest obstacle to obtaining a degree. For the underserved, low income students and families we serve, that obstacle has only grown greater as an increasing number of CSF Scholars are also contributing to their family’s expenses as many households have lost substantial income due to the pandemic. Helping these students navigate a complicated financial aid system, apply for scholarships and find a sustainable financial path towards their college degree is of the highest priority for CSF.

Combining the power of financial aid and scholarships creates the strongest, sustainable financial path for a CSF Scholar to graduate from college.

Leadership 1000 Scholarship
The Leadership 1000 Scholarship awards funding to outstanding low-income students in CSF’s high school program.  Each scholarship is made possible by the generosity of a CSF benefactor. In addition to funding, scholars receive career guidance, financial aid support and networking opportunities.

Governors’ Scholarship for Foster Youth
We created the Washington State Governor’s Scholarship for Foster Youth with then-Washington governor Gary Locke in 2001 which has proven instrumental in supporting hundreds of young people from foster care to graduate from college.  Every Washington state governor since its founding has supported and continues to support this critical scholarship. In addition to the scholarship, Governor Scholars are paired with a staff person at their college or university who can support their individual needs.
