Traveling for the Holidays? Stay Safe!

November 26, 2024

Before you hit the road:

· Check the forecast: Monitor weather conditions for your route, especially mountain passes.

· Prepare your vehicle: Ensure your car is winter-ready. Check tire pressure, pack tire chains, and top off fluids (especially antifreeze).

· Emergency kit: Pack essentials like a flashlight, blankets, water, snacks, a first-aid kit, and a phone charger.

Bonus resource: Not sure how to change a tire? Check out this helpful video by a dad on YouTube who makes it easy to learn! He shares step-by-step tutorials for various skills, so be sure to explore his other videos to pick up more handy tips!

On the road:

· Drive slowly: Adjust your speed for icy or snowy roads and maintain extra space between vehicles.

· Stay slert: Watch for sudden weather changes or road hazards.

· If you have four-wheel drive: While four-wheel drive can give you better traction in snowy or icy conditions, it does not help you stop faster. Maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and keep your speed under control.

· Chain up if required: Don’t wait until the last minute to pull over and put on tire chains if needed. Need help adding chains to your tire? Check out this video by Les Schwab!

In case of delays:

Be patient—holiday traffic and weather delays are common. Let your family know your travel plans and notify them of any changes.

We wish you a safe journey, a restful break, and a wonderful Thanksgiving!
