Tacoma professionals inspire the next generation on Silas Day

November 14, 2023

While many high school seniors were occupied with the long-awaited SATs, the 9th, 10th and 11th graders at Silas High School in Tacoma took advantage of the second annual Silas Day. Made possible by the College Success Foundation, Silas Day is a day of empowerment–offering an array of exciting career exploration activities for the entire school. This day is designed to help students uncover their passions and interests while actively engaging in their academic pursuits.

Brimming with opportunities to inspire the entire student body, Silas Day inspires the entire student body with demonstrations from a variety of working professionals. These workshops offer valuable insights into potential career paths and give students the chance to ask questions and learn from experts in their chosen industries.

This year, Silas Day drew the enthusiasm of 727 students who eagerly participated in 15 workshops. The event showcased an impressive lineup of professionals, including real estate brokers, EMTs, firefighters, radio DJs, a graphic designer, and Seattle Kraken officials. Their willingness to impart knowledge and share their experiences with our students underscores just how valued Silas Day and opportunities like it are within the Tacoma community.

CSF’s commitment to continued education doesn’t stop there. In addition to Silas Day, CSF organizes study halls for underclassmen, ensuring that they have a focused, supportive and productive learning environment that supplements their primary classes. CSF also leads the Senior Work Wednesday initiative–a resource focused on helping seniors prepare for their transition to college or the workforce with resume-building workshops, interview skills training, and guidance on college applications. Lastly, CSF provides students with enriching field trip activities to bring students directly to real-world job environments that can ultimately inspire their ambitious career goals.

CSF is proud to organize Silas Day, a fantastic event that provides students with the opportunity to explore potential career paths and acquire valuable skills for their futures. We want to give special thanks to the professionals in our Tacoma community who helped make this event immersive and informative for CSF Scholars
