It's Time to Complete the FAFSA

January and February are critical months for college funding. Federal and state grants are available, but you must apply early. CSF is partnering with College Goal Sunday Washington to reduce the barriers students face in paying for college. College Goal Sunday is a free, on-site program designed to help students and their families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Visit www.collegegoalsundaywa.org for a full listing of event times and locations near you.

Governor Names Opportunity Scholarship Board

The newly-created Washington State Opportunity Scholarship will provide help to students in families who earn up to 125% of the median family income. This expands college financial aid to a greater group of young people beyond the current state need grant which only reaches families with 70% of the median family income. The scholarship was created by the Washington State Legislature in 2011 to address rising tuition, and will launch this year after the Governor-appointed board finalizes key decisions.

Digital Storytelling Highlights Triumph

The CSF College and Alumni Services Team host regional Digital Storytelling Workshops to bring Scholars and Alumni together to develop their personal stories of triumph telling how they overcame obstacles to go on to college and find success. Participants connect both with other students and with college support staff, forming a bond and learning how to determine an audience, tailor a speech and convey a personal message within their comfort level. See how Passport Scholar Josie Davis chose to share her digital story.
