College Mentor Program

What is the College Mentor Program?
The College Success Foundation has agreements with fifty-six college campuses throughout the state to provide Achievers Scholars with college mentoring.

On each college campus there is a College Mentor Contact who serves as the coordinator and liaison between, the college mentor, the Achievers Scholars and the College Success Foundation. The College Mentor Contact recruits and trains campus faculty and staff to become mentors for the Achievers Scholars. The College Mentor Contacts are responsible for fostering a special community for the Achievers Scholars through various activities such as: welcome receptions, academic advising, group outings (lecture, sports and plays), mid-term check-ins and end of the term celebrations. College Mentor Contacts provide valuable information to the College Success Foundation regarding the Achievers Scholars' adjustment to college life and overall compliance with academic and mentoring aspects of the Achievers Scholarship program.

What do College Mentors do?

  • Freshman and Sophomore Years
As a scholarship recipient, the Achievers Scholar is required to participate in the college mentoring program at their campus during their freshman and sophomore years. The college mentors serve as a resource to help the student with his/her transition to their college campus with its unique culture, mission and philosophy. Achievers Scholars and mentors are required to meet minimally once a month. College Mentors may also consult with Community Involvement Officers at the Achiever's previous high school and the College Relations Team as needed.
  • Junior and Senior Years
When Achievers Scholars reach upper-division standing with their college, the College Success Foundation will encourage the college to continue to provide mentoring with a specialized emphasis on the student's area of study as well as career related internships and job opportunities.
