The Leadership 1000 Scholarship Program:
The leaders of today supporting the leaders of tomorrow. An investment
in the future.
The goal of the
Leadership 1000 Scholarship Program is to provide four-year college
scholarships to economically disadvantaged students on an ongoing basis.
This is a custom designed program for individuals, families, businesses
and civic organizations who want to get involved and support low-income
students by providing scholarship funds. Benefactors sponsor specific
students and commit to funding a four-year degree.
BENEFACTORS
This program offers families, corporations and small
businesses the opportunity to support a specific student with an average
investment of $5,000 per year for four years. Benefactors can put the
scholarship in their family name or company name to recognize their contribution
and if they wish, get to know their student.
The program is flexible so that benefactors may establish specific parameters
such as a particular high school or ethnic group. For example, one benefactor
expressed an interest in providing four-year scholarships to young African
American men graduating from Garfield High School, planning to enroll
at the University of Washington. In this instance, we collaborated with
both Garfield High School and the University of Washington to identify
candidates who met these criteria and to ensure that they were college
ready. The lives of these young men have been changed forever, and they
can look forward to careers and a standard of living that they once thought
impossible.
How
can you help?
You can help by investing $5,000 per year for four years to sponsor a
student through college. You can shape your tax deductible contribution
any way you want, directing us to identify a student from a particular
high school, college or major area of study. The choice is yours.
How does your money work?
As demonstrated in this chart, showing a typical scholarship arrangement
for a state university, students access money from all other sources first.
Then you provide Last-In funding that fills in the gaps and makes it possible
for students in need to attend college.

STUDENTS
The Leadership 1000 Program is funded by individual donors
who have chosen to give back to their community by providing college scholarships.
The scholarships generally are $5,000 per year for four years. In addition
to the minimum guidelines stated below, the student must also meet donor
specified criteria. While donors cannot select the student they want to
fund, they can specify criteria such as gender, ethnicity, major, university
etc.
While we encourage all to apply, chosen students will
be those who meet both the minimum criteria and the additional specifications.
There will be up to 100 scholarships awarded this year.
