ACE, the Achievers College Experience, 2007 The purpose of ACE is to provide newly selected Achievers Scholarship Candidates (ASC) with the information and resources that they will need to be "successful seniors" and an opportunity to experience campus life (residence & dining halls, socializing and yes, the dreaded walking!). During this 4-day/3-night program, ASC will attend workshops about college admissions, how to pay for college, and how best to use the mentoring component of the Achievers Scholarship. Students will also complete a Common Application, a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) pre-application worksheet, and learn how to write a personal statement and a resume. It's not all hard work, though! Students also get to listen to motivational speakers and talk with their peer counselors (current college students) about what it's like to go to college. There are fun-filled student activities that include a talent show and the Achievers Lounge, which has activities such as a dance, a movie, and karaoke. By the end of ACE, students should have a good idea about what to expect from college life and the tools to get there. They will also have developed a new network of peers from across the state of Washington!
