DC Achievers Summer Academic Enrichment Program 2010
The College Success Foundation-DC conducts an annual Summer Academic Enrichment Program for all newly selected DC Achievers. The program takes places between the students’ junior and senior years in high school and includes a four-week residential university-based academic program and a two to three week non-residential college planning curriculum. In 2010, the Summer Academic Enrichment Program was held at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland.
The program’s curriculum, “Taking Care of the World House,” was developed by a committee of education experts from McDaniel and area regional public schools to empower students to see and to step beyond the neighborhood boundaries that have defined and confined them since birth. The theme – “World House” from a quote by Martin Luther King, Jr. – was seamlessly integrated into the skill-building lessons and activities in language arts, mathematics and media studies.
